Watercolour Painting

  • Saskatoon Makerspace 209 Avenue D South Saskatoon, SK, S7M 1P8 Canada (map)

This workshop will focus on creating atmospheric watercolours for small projects using easy to learn techniques. This class will cover what materials (paper, paints, brushes) to choose for vibrant paintings, how to create backgrounds from imagination and from photographs, and how to create an atmospheric painting that does not have too much detail. The class will include creating three 5"x7" watercolour cards with creative techniques to tell a story. The inspiration for this class is based on techniques learned from an artist, Jean Haines.

The instructor for this class, Lila, is mainly a watercolour artist who through teaching elementary art classes, learned basics in watercolours, acrylics, drawing, and clay pottery. Although she loves plein air acrylic painting, and has done huge wall murals, she mostly enjoys painting small atmospheric watercolours through the influence of Jean Haines. Lila is presently taking online art lessons by the artist, and has worked with Saskatchewan artists Paul Trottier, and Monique Martin. Lila is very influenced by nature as her inspiration, and also loves working with natural materials such as wood and handmade paper. Lila sells her art cards at The Better Good, Hen & Chicks Studio, Clearcut Coffeehouse, and Everything Country Mini Market.
